WIAW: Snack Attack!

Thank gosh it is Wednesday.

I am nearly half way done with the week, I get to learn about some pretty good eats from my fabulous bl-iends (thank you Jenn and WIAW!) and my audit is complete!

I don’t think I told you, since I had a few other things on my mind, but this week was my first audit in my new position.

The district office came, went through pretty much my computer and entire filing system, and wrote a report on what I was missing, how I need to improve, etc. It is basically a way to ensure that if the state would come and perform the same task, that everything was a-ok.

Initially, my auditor said she would be coming Tuesday AND Thursday to do a thorough investigation, since I am still very new to my duties, BUT they wrapped everything up by lunchtime yesterday and now I just have to write a report on their findings.

Whew I feel so much better!

Today all I have to do is solidify the high school budget for next year, piece of cake!

So today I am taking a bit of a break from my super heavy posts I have shared as of late, and joining in with my fellow bloggers for the weekly WIAW.

And this edition is sort of themed based on some changes I have made to progress on my path to recovery, and also to answer some questions I have received via e-mail.

A lot of you have asked about my meal plan structure.

Well I don’t really have a structure, to be honest. I am starting to become a bit more rigid as far as fueling my body every so many hours, etc. but before I just knew I was SUPPOSED to meet my 2500 calories a day and it really didn’t matter when.

This week I have worked on implementing more snacks, so I thought it was quite a coincidence that when Ryan and I were shopping this weekend I found a few new treats to pack for school.

Does anyone else have a desk drawer full of stuff?

Mine is getting a little out of control, but you never know what you are going to be hungry for, right?!

So I thought it was only fair if I let you in on some of the amazing things I purchased…

These were on special for 2 for $5.00, so naturally I had to get two kinds. Variety is the spice of life and I am SO glad I did.

At around 10:00 am I usually take out half a serving of each kind, and munch through them as I write some checks. It is a great way to give me some energy and satisfy a salty craving after my normal fruit-filled, or oatmeal based, more sweet breakfasts.

I also have a nightly snack before bedtime. I have done this for nearly three years, ever since I got home from Princeton hospital. It is a way to ensure I am getting proper nutrition, a nice way to wrap up the day and honestly, I hate going to bed hungry, so bedtime snack=must.

I am pretty lame and have the same type of snack every night, usually including some sort of bar. I do, however, vary the type I have.

I have told you before but my absolute favorites have always been Luna, Clif, Clif Mojo, NUGO, Larabar, and more recently I have added a few others, but last week I was introduced to a new kind that will permanently enter my rotation; the KIND Bar.

I think I was living on a different planet because I know these have been around for awhile, but I had never actually tried one!

I have seen them in Starbucks, airports, Whole Foods, and I really do not know why I have never thrown one in my cart, so when Sarah sent me two in a giveaway I won, I had to taste.

Um, why had I not done this sooner?!

These are amazing!

I love the whole almonds and other nuts that are strewn throughout the bar. It provides crunch, a touch of salt, and some sweet to balance all my favorite flavors, and I absolutely had to try other types. I was thrilled to see they had a few boxes at Target so of course I had to extend my bar stash with these yummy new snacks. Thank you KIND and Sarah, for a seriously awesome find!

And then, while I was in the same aisle, these also caught my eye…

Clif Z-Iced Oatmeal Cookie

This is definitely a sweet treat, but it really does remind me of a cookie; crumbly and totally dippable into some Vanilla Almond milk. I was thinking this might be good warm…

I’ll let you know the verdict 😉

Luna Honey Peanut Pretzel

I think you gather than I like a good pretzel taste, so pairing this with a crunchy peanut and some honey, yup, it is awesome.

Luna has never really let me down so I wasn’t surprised that I liked this, but definitely happy that they continue to produce awesome flavors.

White Chocolate Macadamia Nut, Iced Oatmeal Raisin, Nutz Over Chocolate, Vanilla Almond…oh how I love them all 🙂

If you enjoy a good mixture of sweet and salt like me, these tasty treats might serve you well. Not only are they delicious, but also super convienient and can be ordered online or found at a major retailer like Target, so pick some up if you are having a snack-attack or need an on-the-go pick me up.

  1. I’ve tried the Kind bars (so good!) but not the Cliff Z Bars… might have to add those to the shopping list! And I also have a massive snack box (we don’t really have drawers, except for filing), because you just never know what your body will feel like (though I’m a sucker for anything salty-sweet).

      • As long as they’re separate kinds, it sounds good to me! Plus, how awful would it be to run out?? I’ve never tried the mixes… I need to get to the store (or just get out more, lol)!

  2. My nightly “snack” is so big ,,,its horrible. I keep binging. I always “start” the night-time snack with fruit, yogurt, nuts, etc…then there’s a binge (last night it was multiple flavored rice cakes and 3/4 cup mixed salted nuts….bloat….gross…too much food and WAY too many nuts…then I woke up , no appetite, and guess what i do? i just eat ginormous breakfast that sits in my stomach and makes the trapped gas in my ribs worse. I am a robot: I just eat , eat, eat.
    I’m at a loss.

    I wish I could be normal.

    • that is not so big at all. you just think it is because it is more than what you are used to.
      Nuts are a fabulous thing to eat! they will totally help repair your brain and restore your cognitive function! there is no such thing as normal my darling, but i do want you to be healthy ❤

    • I agree with CJ (she’s a smart chica).

      What about trying to spread more snacks out during the day, so you’re not so hungry/munchy/searching for food late at night? that might help you feel better about eating… and once you allow your brain nourishment throughout the day it will start to heal and reframing thoughts will be more possible.

      • Thanks…but I’m already eating 6x a day….and eating a LOT…my bedtime snack is 400 cals ++ alone…last night I binged on 70% chocolate…I’m talking late at night…no wonder my body and bowels are so messed up 😦

    • It is SO good! Any other flavors you suggest? we dont have a huge variety around me, but thank goodness for the internet store 🙂
      I WISH I WAS GOING TO BLEND RETREAT! sounds like so much fun!!!
